Ollie, Danny and I spent several hours at Mom and Dad's house Thursday. The timing was great because the owner of the company who is providing their 24-hour care came to see how things were going and find out what they could do to improve things at the house. It was good for us to be there, support Mom and give input. I think the biggest issue is that Mom and Dad are paying for 24-hour care and don't really need that any more. You know how that German comes out in Mom!!! The caretaker is only needed during the day, and mostly in the morning. So, we are considering reducing care to mornings and evenings, giving Mom and Dad back their privacy during the mid-day and nights. They'll each wear those alert buttons in case there are any problems. We're working on a schedule and probably will change over to hourly care in the very near future.
Jean had spent the day with Mom and Dad on Wednesday. She said the occupational therapist worked a lot with Dad's right arm and hand. He can get Dad to make a slight fist with his right hand and is diligently working with his range of motion in the shoulder. Dad is able to lift that arm a little bit. He wouldn't do it for us on Thursday, though. It may have been sore, I don't know.
That's all to report for now...Love, Sandi
